Caroline Carson, Conductor

Welcome to my little corner of the web-universe! I am the Director of Choral Activities at the University of New Orleans and the Director of Music at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in New Orleans. I'm also the state R&S chair for Ethnic & Multicultural choirs. I LOVE ACDA!

In addition to my personal bio. and a few concert programs, there is some info on the Milledgeville Singers Guild. You will find a random display of musings, fun things, silly jokes, little games (you can even draw on me!), some useful and some crazy links, and a ton of photos. My cat Sasha even has her own album! (awwwww!) Check out the MYSTERY page.,  Ha ha ha! Look around a bit and feel free to contact me for any reason, especially if you love choral music! The name of this site comes from what the choral master Dale Warland called me once (with a smile) when he signed a CD for me - “To Caroline Carson, a fellow "choral nut" and also b/c everyone that knows me realizes I’m a quite nutty about choral music! Congratulations Dale, for being awarded the 2007 Robert Shaw award for lifetime acheivement at the Miami ACDA convention!!!!!!!

Concert / News links *** Be sure to see the Jefferson Chorale in concert at the DDay Museum on July 4th Louise LaBruyere directing!

A Quote

It is cruel, you know, that music should be so beautiful. It has the beauty of loneliness and of pain: of strength and freedom. The beauty of disappointment and never-satisfied love. The cruel beauty of nature, and everlasting beauty of monotony -

                                 Benjamin Britten (1913-1976)

About me.... : )

I am currently the Director of Choral Activities at the University of New Orleans and the Director of Music at St. Paul's Episcopal Church. I moved to New Orleans from Georgia where I was the founder and director of the Milledgeville Singers Guild, Director of Choirs at Central High School (Magnet for the Arts) in Macon, Georgia, and Director of Music Ministries at First Presbyterian Church in Milledgeville. I have served on the faculty of Georgia College & State University (as Dir. of Choral Activities) and at Shenandoah Conservatory (as Adjunct Professor of Choral Literature and Conducting).

I received my Bachelors degree in Music Education from the University of South Carolina, a Masters in Conducting from Emory University, and (finally), the Doctorate of Musical Arts in Conducting from USC in Columbia, SC.  I've been lucky to work with such distinguished American conductors as Larry Wyatt, Manuel Alvarez, Alfred Calabrese, Dale Warland, and Robert Page (those last two gentlemen in workshops). I’ve also worked overseas in workshops with Boris Tevlin of the Moscow Conservatory, Helène Guy of the Paris Conservatory, Professor Marin Tchonev and Maestro Milko Kolarov, both from Varna, Bulgaria.

While in Atlanta at Emory University, I taught in the Atlanta public school system, chaired my district Honor Chorus, and participated in four Grammy-winning recordings with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Chorus under the direction of Robert Shaw and Yoel Levi. Singing with Robert Shaw was like grad school in itself! While at USC, I  was the director of the Early Music Ensemble and an assistant for the Concert Choir and Columbia Choral Society. I have prepared choruses for concerts, workshops, tours, and a year 2000 Carnegie Hall performance. In addition to participating in numerous choral workshops in the US, I have attended the Varna International Conductors Symposium six times. After three of the workshops, I taught short classes on American Music and Music Education in association with the University of Varna, Bulgaria. I plan to return in May 2008. If you have never visited Bulgaria, let me tell you that it is an incredibly wonderful experience!

Milledgeville Singers Guild - MSG

Founded by Caroline Carson in 2001, the Guild was established in an effort to bring larger choral works to the central Georgia area and to promote a sense of community among musicians in the city of Milledgeville, GA. Dr. Douglas Keith is the current director of the MSG.  Doug is also a professor of Music Therapy at GC&SU Milledgeville. He is an outstanding organist, professor, and vocalist who has helped establish and maintain the high quality and enthusiasm of music in Milledgeville, GA!

The MSG is currently comprised of approximately 30 dedicated members including experienced and non-experienced singers. Members are hard-working and creative individuals. The choir gives at least four annual performances. Several of these performances have been with chamber orchestra. The group has increased its visibility and has become known for high quality performances as well as outstanding choral literature. The MSG is open to all by voice placement and interview with the director.
